I don’t know about you, but my weekends fly by. The days are a bit less structured. We have a bit of fun. In fact this weekend, me and my husband purchased a membership to our local water park which happens to be about a mile from our home.
No, we don’t take the kids.
Our kids are all grown up.
We just love pulling up, getting in the lazy river for about an hour, then leaving before it gets crowded with allllllll the people.
We just love it! But that is another story for another day.
Back to Mondays.
Mondays seem to roll around all to soon. And in truth I don’t mind Mondays. I purposely keep my Mondays fairly open to spend time in my office, doing “work” stuff. Being your own boss does have its perks.
But what I do find challenging on Mondays is doing my Monday work out.
I don’t lift weights on Sundays. I walk my dog (and now splash around at the water park), but I give my body a day off from the weights.
And in the past (I have really worked on this), it was all too easy to NOT work out at all. I could find any excuse in the book to NOT work out. You name it, it was my excuse. Until I decided otherwise.
Until I decided that I wanted to shift this pattern of self sabotage.
When I started doing Taekwondo, I was hooked (and I was in my 40’s so I felt like a badass). I did martial arts for years. I even earned a second degree black belt!! I am pretty proud of that.
But then I stopped. Life happened. Injuries happened. And I was done with that chapter.
I didn’t do anything for a long time, and I felt like junk. Our bodies need to move in some way, a lot.
So one day, I decided to change my sloth ways and began slowly lifting some weights and walking a bit more. This is a life long commitment to me!
I am not doing this for vanity reasons as much as I want to feel good in my body as I age (I am 54 at this writing). I don’t want to be like the “I’ve fallen and I can’t get up” commercial I grew up seeing.
But those Mondays, whew, they are rough for me.
But here is what I have learned, and maybe it will help one of my 8 subscribers.
Just put on the sports bra. Throw on the socks. Grab the shoes.
Do the thing.
Once you put on some tunes to get you going, and you start that first whatever, you will be okay. In fact, afterwards you will feel so proud of yourself for NOT staying in bed.
I am worth the effort I put in and so are YOU!!
And this really applies to anything you struggle getting done during the day.
Break it down into small steps and just start where you are.
Just some post workout Monday musings for you.
